Going for the Green- Sustainability Initiative

The Hero Dubai Desert Classic is hosting its inaugural Sustainability Sunday, to bring the tournament’s green and sustainable initiatives into focus.

Sustainability Sunday will showcase efforts which fall under four themes; waste, transport, energy and legacy.

The tournament will aim to reduce waste sent to landfill through specialist waste management and the replacement of plastic bottles on course with refillable options. Initiatives also include a switch to digital ticketing, a campaign to encourage the use of metro and public transport by spectators, the use of solar energy and bio-diesel by Aggreko to power the event, and a symbolic seed planting of the Ghaf tree, the national tree of the UAE, by players in association with Goumbook.

Other sustainable efforts by tournament partners include a ban on single-use cutlery by JA Resorts and Hotels, the recycling of PVC used during tournament week into other products by Arena, and the use of cans and compostable cups by Wasl.

In addition to these efforts, the Hero Dubai Desert Classic is making a three-year commitment to environmental and social responsibility through GEO certification, and is set to join the UN Sports for Climate Action Framework.
